The Implementation Team
The intervention is delivered by 3 teams each covering one province. A team is made up of 4 community health workers, 2 research nurses, 2 youth workers and a counsellor. Each province has 4 intervention clusters; a team spends one day a week at each intervention cluster.
Affectionately known as the "YRA" or the "YRs", the Youth Researchers Academy was established to train young people to undertake SRH (Sexual & Reproductive Health) research. YRs were trained on research methods at a residential course. They then conducted research in groups mentored by a member of the CHIEDZA study team. Their research projects were embedded within CHIEDZA and another study called FAST (Feasibility and Acceptability of HIV Self-testing in adolescents and young people)
The aim was to create a model for youth participation and representation in research, and to promote the involvement of youth as equal partners in shaping the health agenda.
